Two minutes walk from the centre of Roseau, Fort Young is Dominica's most luxurious full service hotel. Built within the walls of the 18th century fort, it sits on the edge of a rocky bluff overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
All 73 rooms and suites are air-conditioned with en-suite bathroom, cable TV and internet access. Categories range from a standard Fort room to the luxurious oceanfront suite, all are well appointed with modern facilities and most overlook the tranquil Caribbean Sea. A popular island favourite, the Palisades restaurant serves all meals and light snacks. The Bala's Bar is famous for its island cocktails and rum punch. Other facilities include a swimming pool, spa, gym and duty-free shopping. WiFi internet access is available for free throughout the property.
The Fort Young Hotel is perfectly situated to discover all the island's treasures. You can dive or go whale watching directly from the jetty or hike in the rainforest with its waterfalls that stretch for miles behind the hotel. We recommend booking the Buddy Dive into Nature package which offers daily boat and shore diving as well as topside excursions, the best way to enjoy your stay on the Caribbean's Nature Island.
Dive Centre
The dive centre is located on site at Fort Young Hotel. Daily boat dives operate around the island but mainly to the local sites in Soufriere Scott’s Head Marine Reserve. A comprehensive range of dive courses are available and the house reef is always open for divers and snorkellers alike. Facilities include a shop, equipment rental, lockers, rinse tanks and camera tables.
Dive sites in the marine reserves offer spectacular scenes from huge pinnacles rising to the surface to archways with large schools of blackbar soldierfish, barracuda and horse-eye jacks a common sighting. Expect thriving colourful reefs and sponges in all shapes and sizes playing host to rare and interesting marine life such as the red banded lobster and seahorses.
Underwater highlights include Scott’s Head Pinnacle, an exciting dive site on the edge of a volcano. Divers and snorkellers will both enjoy the famous Champagne Reef site and are more than likely to spot turtles, sting rays and frogfish. The lucky ones may even encounter dolphins, sharks and whales. Water temperature ranges from 25C from Jan-Jun and 20C from Jul-Dec. Nitrox is available.
